INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS

Modern vehicles now have electronic instrument clusters containing information displays and servo-motor controlled instruments. These units are now integrated into the communication bus on the vehicle enabling it to display information and faults from all the systems on the vehicle. Due to the high temperatures in the cabin of the vehicle on very warm days the displays may become faded or lose pixels in the display window making it very difficult to read.

The Mercedes S Class instrument clusters are losing the back lighting (illumination) making it impossible to read the gauges. Common symptoms will be an initial flickering, partial loss and eventually a total loss of illumination
The 2000 era Mercedes C and E Class Instrument cluster / Instrument Panel / Dashboard commonly fails by losing part of its odometer, temperature displays and / or the time display will be garbled and unreadable.

BMW X5, E38/39 series dash loses information on the bottom displays. Displays become garbled and unreadable.
